Technical Symbols

1 1 1 1 1

You see some symbols When you check the catalogues and tile websites. But do you know what are them or what do they mean?
We explain these symbols here briefly which receive information about tiles that you want.

Porcelain

Porcelain is a kind of ceramic tile which mix the mineral materials with glass compounds in producing process, then bake in high temperature and pressure. So, porcelain tiles are very compact, thin and resistant to water penetration (less than 0.5 percent). Also, porcelain tiles are harder than other tiles and ceramic tiles production.
People use porcelain tiles as a covering for floor or wall, in high traffic environments and facade of buildings due to their features.

Roto printing

Roto printing or roto color is a kind of printing the pattern on tile which is newer than flat printing method. In this method the pattern and color are defined on special cylinders then the pattern is moved or transferred on tile biscuit by delicate cuts on the cylinders.
Cylinder due to printing progress, should move several times till pattern becoming complete, then pour an oil for fixing the pattern, after that are baked in tile kiln.

Digital printing

Digital printing is newest method of printing which spray the color on tile biscuit by laser and Nano technology and the printing machine does not touch the tile.
Printing design on rustic and punch tile is possible due to this most modern printing method.

Rectified

Tiles are cut in right dimension by a special cutting machine after the end of backing which this process called calibration. Tiles are cut with right angle and the edges of tiles become sharp which called rectified or calibrated tiles.
Rectified tiles don’t need to grouting because after mounting, there aren’t any seams and they prevent entry of any contamination. So, they are in top level of being hygienic.

Matt surface

At the end of producing process, a layer of liquid glass which called tile glaze is poured on the tile and is moved in the tile kiln. In fact, the glaze fill porosities on the tile surface and can be matt, semi glossy and glossy.
Matt glaze is turbid and doesn’t reflect the light but don’t show the dirtiness of surface.

Glossy surface

Glossy glaze is very bright and clear and reflect the light which makes the space more attractive. Also, it is cleaned easily but it shows dirt and contamination.

Semi glossy surface

Another kind of surfaces is semi glossy glaze which is between glossy and matt glazes which is neither as much as glossy glaze brightness nor as turbid as matt glaze.

Floor covering usage

This symbol is inserted on the kinds of tile production which are used for floor covering.
Of course, most of the ceramic and porcelain tiles are used as floor and wall covering but should pay attention that the amount of friction on floor tile is more than wall tiles. So, floor tiles are thicker and harder than wall tiles which put them in two different groups.

wall covering usage

The symbol or sign is inserted on the kinds of wall tile production which are use in interior or exterior spaces. Wall tile is thinner and its water absorption is higher than floor tile. Some of tiles like porcelain tiles are used on wall of exterior spaces (the facade of buildings).

Semi polish

The surface of porcelain tile is bumpy and porous which do a special process for solving this problem that called polish.
The surface of ceramic tiles and porcelain tiles can be full polish (super polish) and semi polish. Polishing ceramic tile causes they become glossy like glass and slippery.

Sugar effect

Sugar effect powder is a kind of special glaze which is sprayed on the tile in glazing step.
Sugar effect powder are matt and glossy but the matt ones have more fans. Also, sugar effect powder is used on tiles with matt and glossy glaze which their most common usage is the using of glossy sugar effect powder on matt glaze that you can see the sugary mode (glossy finely bean).

Random

The types of patterned tiles:
Book match tiles: Some complementary tiles complete one pattern together and repeat continuously and is inserted A and B on the boxes for guiding.
Random tiles: They are patterned tiles and are mounted next to each other but don’t complete a special pattern.

Low-traffic environment

The environment where traffic in those spaces is very low, called low traffic environment for instance the corridors of a tower and all round of the lobby.
So, some tiles which have less resistance to friction called low traffic tiles and this symbol is inserted on the boxes.

High-traffic environment

The environment where traffic in those spaces is very high, called high traffic environment.
The traffic amount has a direct relation with the amount of friction. So, pay attention to this point when you want choose tiles or ceramic tiles for covering floor.
